In simultaneous mode, the interpreter translates in real time what the speaker is saying in a different language. A simultaneous interpreter works in a sound-proof booth using a professional headset and speaking into a microphone, while the audience (usually located in the conference room) listens to the interpretation through earphones. Simultaneous interpretation is particularly fit for events with many participants, such as conferences, congresses or presentations.
Because simultaneous interpreting is energy-consuming, interpreters never sit alone in a booth. In order to guarantee a high-quality performance, it is necessary to hire at least two interpreters for any kind of event, who will take turns in the booth and help each other.
