Unlike the two interpreting modes described above, liaison interpretation, sometimes also referred to as dialogic interpretation, is a spontaneous kind of interaction in which an interpreter generally stands between two people who speak different languages. The interpreter translates the speakers' short interventions (usually few sentences), without taking notes, thereby making the whole conversation smooth and rapid.
Liaison interpretation is commonly used during bilateral meetings in various areas, during business negotiations, technical interventions or casual meetings between two parties.
